National Veterans Day Parade

Friday, November 10, 2017, 08:00am - 05:00pm

About The Event

The National Veterans Day Parade was established in Birmingham, Alabama in 1947, 7 years prior to it becoming an official national holiday. Raymond Weeks, of Birmingham, petitioned congress to change Armistice Day to Veterans Day and with the help and support of General Eisenhower and Congressman Ed Rees, was successful. In 1954, the nation celebrated the first official Veterans Day.

Each year we focus on a specific era, group or event. This year we will be celebrating the 100 year anniversary of WW I and the contributions of the Native Americans in the armed forces.
