About The Event

A evening of music, pictures and historical narrative celebrating Jim Europe and the 369th Harlem Hellfighter Band. Written and performed by members of the California National Guard and State Military Reserve Bands, the program highlights the many accomplishments of LT Europe and his ensemble. This traces the bands travels throughout France as part of the AEF, from performances at the Savoy rest area to the front lines in Champagne and leading the vanguard into Germany at the end of the war. Their triumphant return to New York hailed them as the most celebrated band in the country. Attendees will hear the long lost music of the 369th and their unique style of playing that transformed Ragtime to Jazz.
