Sunday, November 11, 2018, 08:30am - 12:30pm

About The Event

Town of Hingham Veterans Day Ceremony-2018

The Hingham Veterans’ Council is pleased to announce the itinerary for this year’s Annual Veteran’s Day Observance, formerly called Armistice Day.

Veterans’ Day 2018 will begin with the CPL Lawrence St. Laurent, USMC Breakfast at the Hingham Town Hall’s Central Meeting Room (2nd Floor); from 08:30-10:00 a.m. This event is open to ALL Military, Veterans, and their families; sponsored by the Hingham Veterans’ Council, and catered by Hart Brothers Catering of Rockland, MA.

This year’s event will begin promptly at 10:55 a.m., in front of Hingham Town Hall Veteran’s Memorial. The Bugler will sound attention, and the public will be invited to participate in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Immediately following, all those present will remain silent as the Bells of Peace throughout the community, state, and nation will ring 21 times. This nationwide initiative from the World War One Centennial Commission will act as a solemn reminder of the sacrifice and service of veterans of The Great War. The combined Honor Guard will then fire three volleys as a memorial wreath is positioned at the monument, for ALL Veterans.

Following this tribute, those in attendance will proceed to Sanborn Auditorium on the second floor of Town Hall. At approximately 11:15 a.m. the main speaking event will begin. There will be reserved seating for ALL Military and Veterans. The event will be moderated by Michael Puzo, with music performed by the Hingham High School Band. The principal speaker will be Colonel Richard S. Smudin, U.S. Army, a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Please make every effort to attend and show your support for our Nation’s Veterans!
