About The Event

Special Tribute to Eugene I. Van Antwerp

Making Armistice/Veterans  Day a National Holiday

Eugene I. Van Antwerp was instrumental in making Armistice/Veteran's Day a National Holiday. As the National Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and he lobbied congress for the passage of HR 6656 in 1937. It was signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on May 13, 1938. The bill made November 11th Armistice Day, a National Holiday. Twenty years after the end of the World War.  In 1954, it was changed to Veterans Day.

Governor Snyder recently signed a Special Tribute to Eugene I. Van Antwerp for his contribution to making Armistice/Veterans Day, a National Holiday.

Official Copies of the Special Tribute will be presented to the children of Mr. Van Antwerp.
