Governor's Proclamation & Citation & 8th & I Marine Barracks Recognition
On Thursday, October 25, 2018, the HUD Veterans Affinity Group (VAG) received the attached Proclamation and Governor's Citation from the Honorable Lawrence J. Hogan, JR., (Governor, State of Maryland) for the VAG’s patriotic efforts to execute programs, projects, and activities to commemorate the Centennial of World War One (WWI), and for remembering and honoring those members of our nation’s Armed Forces who sacrificed during WWI (1914 – 1918).
The Governors Proclamation and Citation will be on display at the 2018 HUD Veterans Day Ceremony scheduled for Thursday, November 8, 2018 (11:00a.m. – 12:00p.m. EDT), Brooke-Mondale Auditorium. (The Veterans Day Ceremony will be WEBCAST to all HUD Regional and Field Offices)
Additionally, on Thursday, November 8, 2018 (11:00a.m. – 12:00p.m. EDT) HUD VAG will also remember, recognize, and honor the 8th & I Marine Barracks for their Heroic actions taken on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at the horrific fire which took place at the Arthur Capper Senior Citizens Public Housing complex in Washington, D.C. The 8th &I Marine Barracks, putting the safety and welfare of others before self, rushed into danger to save the lives of our senior citizens, carrying our Seniors out of the burning structure on their shoulders, in wheelchairs, and locked arms: https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/dc/all-residents-rescued-from-dc-senior-apartment-building-after-massive-fire/65-596297782. A contingent of 8th & I Marines will be present at the HUD Veterans Day Ceremony to receive a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ for their Heroic actions taken on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. During this Honorable Ceremony the VAG will also recognize, honors, and remember the family members of HUD employees who sacrificed during WWI. The names of those family members will be read aloud and ‘Certificates of Appreciation’ will be given to the family members, in the name of those who sacrificed during WWI (1914 – 1918).
