WWI AA Armistice Celebration

Sunday, November 11, 2018, 02:00pm - 05:00pm

About The Event

WWI AA Armistice Celebration

Gwen Redwine, Troup Co. Archives & Museum Board Member, sponsored this multi-event of Sgt Clevland Tucker's 99th Birthday, Veteran's Day, and the Armistice, honoring Georgia's WWI elite officers of color.

Post 523 AA WWI Centennial Special Projects Historian Johnette Brooks, was the speaker at the Armistice and delighted the guests with stories of Georgians in WWI: the world's first AA pilot, a Navy cook; (9) KIA; (8) WIA; (2) at Arlington Nationall Cemetery; (3) at French Cemetery; (2) attorneys; (1) female social worker; physicians, (8) captains; (20) 1st lieutenants; (21) 2nd lieutenants; (3) dentists; (3) pharmacists; (2) university professors; and (77) sergeants.

WWII Staff Sgt. Tucker, his wife, and approx 30 additional relatives were on hand to honor and cherish him while he shared his experiences in the war. He was handsome, alert, and had surprising recall of events. He entered to a receiving line of excited fans and departed full of his birthday cake.

We were warmly welcomed to the pristine, state-of-the-art center. The hosting post celebrated their ribbon cutting in May of this year.

Thank you to ALA Post 75, Cmdr. Jake Christman, Adj. Tania Griffin, and Adj. Charles.
