DESCRIPTION:<p>On Saturday November 3 at 2pm&nbsp; Elizabeth Clemens, the author of Det
 roit in World War 1 (Arcadia Publishing, 2015 ) will be the museum's speake
 r, offering a visual presentation of Detroit's role in the war, its industr
 ial contributions and the effect of the war on the Detroit home front. Clem
 ens is the audiovisual archivist at the Walter Reuther Library, Archives of
  Labor and Union Affairs at Wayne State University. She has authored a seco
 nd book of Detroit history , The Works Progress Administration in Detroit.<
 /p><p>At the same program, Lincoln Park Mayor Tom Kames will read excerpts 
 from the war diary kept by his grandfather, Walter P.Gaffigan of Detroit. P
 rivate Gaffigan's journal covers six months from the time of his enlistment
  in April of 1918, his deployment to France in June and serving&nbsp;on the
  Western Front with&nbsp;G Company, of the 112th&nbsp;Ammunition Train of t
 he 37th Division. The 37th was involved in the fighting at the Meuse-Argonn
 e (the largest battle in the history of the U.S. Army) and and the Ypres-Ly
 s Offensives against the German Army, just prior to the November's Armistic
 e.</p><p>Other family members of men who served in the First World War will
  also be in&nbsp;attendance. The Historical Society extends a special invit
 ation to those who had ancestors</p><p>who served in The Great War. Admissi
 on to the event is free (donations are accepted)&nbsp;and is open to the ge
 neral public.</p><p>Light refreshments will be served following the program
