Rededication of World War I monument
A Veterans Day parade and celebration event, highlighted by rededication of the World War I monument in downtown Dalton, will be sponsored by American Legion Post 112. 400 units are signed up for the parade, which begins at 10 a.m. Rededication of the monument will occur in a ceremony immediately following the conclusion of the parade. The monument, built in 1924 and which previously stood in front of the old post office, now the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce Building, has been moved to the lawn of the Whitfield County Courthouse. The rededication ceremony will be led by the Robert Loughridge Chapter of the Daughers of the American Revolution. Featured speaker is State Sen. Chuck Payne, R-Dalton. Descendants of two heroes named on the monument will participate in the unveiling.
