September 15 1918 marks 100 years since the Battle of St. Mihiel, the first major offensive the American Expeditionary Force undertook as an independent army. The St. Mihiel salient was part of the last German offensive toward Paris, but American forces beat back the offending army, winning a victory although it suffered a significant loss of life.
The ABMC will honor those whose lives were lost in the Battle, at the St. Mihiel American Cemetery
