The Union Foundation presents a benefit concert for the renovation and beautification of the Historic Union Baptist and United American Cemeteries. The Loretta C. Manggrum Chorale, under the direction of Eric V. Oliver, performs sacred music (traditional, classical, hymns, spirituals, gospel, inspirational, and contemporary) composed by Dr. Loretta C. Manggrum and other African American composers of sacred music. Historian and Lecturer Paul LaRue has identified over 170 names of the original World War I veterans buried in Union Baptist Cemetery. He has researched the names and matched them with their regiments and units in WWI. These men were buried between 1919-1940. This is by no means a complete list of WWI burials in the Union Baptist Cemetery, but a fascinating look at the diverse nature of these veterans' service and sacrifice.
Tickets are available at The Union Foundation's website www.theunionfoundation.org for $25.00.
