They Shall Not Pass | 1916, Exhibit at the National World War 1 Museum and Memorial

Sunday, November 20, 2016, 10:00am - 05:00pm

About The Event

July 1 this year will mark 100 years since the start of the Second Battle of the Somme, which lasted until November as the British and French armies failed to break the stalemate of the Western Front. 2016 also marks the centennial of the Battle of Verdun, lasting from February to December 1916, which ended in a French victory at the cost of hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers. Combined, the two battles killed or wounded more than one million Allied soldiers, along with 800,000 German soldiers.

Having opened at the The National World War I Museum and Memorial on May 6, They Shall Not Pass| 1916 commemorates the centennial of two of the bloodiest battles of World War One, and in human history, The Somme and Verdun. The Museum will honor the lives lost at these two battles through the exhibit, which will include dozens of artifacts from the museum's collection never before displayed. The exhibit will recognize the personal cost of the Somme and Verdun, through private correspondence of Allied soldiers.

They Shall Not Pass| 1916 is presented in Exhibit Hall, and will run until March 12, 2017.
