About The Event

Imagery of America in World War I

The moment the United States joined in the war effort of the First World War, life across America would never be the same. It took nearly three years before the United States joined the war in 1917 and many citizens would need to be convinced to support the fight both overseas and on the home front. Posters and patriotic slogans were powerful tools used to inspire, inform and persuade. During a time of war citizens were expected to adjust to a wartime society as part of their patriotic duty.

The exhibit explores the patriotic activities of Caroline and Charles Foster, as well as women roles and patriotic organizations supporting wartime efforts. Focusing on home front activities that were part of a patriotic service to the country, the display includes both original and reproduction uniforms including, U.S. Army Reserve, American Red Cross and Women Land Army.

The unbelievable histories and meanings behind Americas patriotic symbols, such as the American Flag, Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam will be illustrated through historic imagery and artifacts. Please don't miss this uniquely American exhibit
