High Bridge Trail State Park is hosting a commemoration of the end of hostilities in the Great War of 1914-1918 (World War I). This program is a joint effort with our local American Legion post, our friends group, and our Heart of Virginia Community Band. We will honor a few of our local WWI veterans, and introduce a new memorial for the fallen. The public is invited to hear the stories and our town band, view artifacts including uniform parts and equipment, and enjoy refreshments provided by our friends group. As part of honoring our local WWI veterans, we have arranged for our local churches to toll their bells for fifteen minutes prior to 11 o'clock a.m., the time of the cease fire on 11 November in 1918. Many of our local churches will participate in creating this memorable moment for our citizens to remember the ending of the Great War.
