11:11am, November 11 2018, marks the hundredth anniversary of the day the guns fell silent at the end of the First World War. Approximately 4.7 million U.S. soldiers were mobilized and 116,708 American military personnel died during World War I from all causes. Over 204,000 U.S. soldiers were wounded and 757 U.S. civilians died due to military action. The Anne Loucks Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, in coordination with Veterans of Foreign War post #1351 Martinez and the Veterans Commemoration Committee, is holding a commemoration and wreath laying ceremony in honor of those who fell during the years of this conflict. This event will begin with the traditional two-minute silence at 11:00am to mark the time when hostilities ended in 1918. This will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony and personal remembrances by chapter and post members whose family served in WWI. Attendance is free and open to the public.
