A speaker, a ‘Bells of Peace’ ceremony, and a Film Festival have been planned to commemorate an important time in our history when the Armistice was signed 100 years ago and hostilities ended the Great War on November 11, 1918. To offer a time of reflection, the Norwin Historical Society will deliver a commemorative program by starting off the day discussing how World War I impacted the town of Irwin, PA and the surrounding communities. This presentation will be followed by a ‘Bells of Peace’ ceremony at exactly 11:00 AM EST.
The Armistice Film Festival will follow, beginning at Noon, and is being offered to provide a learning and sharing opportunity about World War I, and the significance of the ‘War that Changed the World.’ This exclusive Film Festival package was made available to the Lamp Theatre in Irwin from a donation made by Andrew Capets, author of the book 'Good War, Great Men.' From the sale of his book, a donation of $500 was made to the National World War I Memorial in Washington, DC.
