About The Event

Military and Veterans Salute

The World War One Commission provides the opportunity to give long overdue recognition to America’s sons and daughters who served in the Great War, including the more than 204,000 Americans who returned home wounded and the 116,516 who never returned. This day honors the veterans of World War I and all the conflicts that followed. The event reminds us of the service and sacrifice of military members and veterans will never be forgotten.

  • 2:05 p.m. Introduction of the film “A Soldier’s Journey”
  • 2:06 p.m. “A Soldier’s Journey”
  • 2:16 p.m. Introduction of WW1 Memorial lead designer Joe Weishaar (Confirmed) and sculptor Sabin Howard (Confirmed)
  • 2:17 p.m. Presentation and conversation with Joe Weishaar and Sabin Howard
  • 2:32 p.m. Introduction of Katharina Hass, winner of the National History Day San Diego, Outstanding Historical Performance (Confirmed)
  • 2:33 p.m. Historical Performance, Katharina Hass 
  • 2:43 p.m. Introduction of Daniel Wright (to join Katharina on stage), “Who They Were” Program Presentation (Confirmed)
  • 2:44 p.m. “Who They Were” Program Presentation, Daniel Wright and Kathariana Hass
  • 2:46 p.m. Introduction of Purple Hearts Reunited Presentation
  • 2:47 p.m. Purple Hearts Reunited representative presents medals to two families
  • 2:59 p.m. Introduction of British Bagpiper, Warrant Officer Class 2 Pipe Major Peter Macgregor, British Army (Confirmed)
  • 3:00 p.m. Warrant Officer Class 2 Pipe Major Peter Macgregor plays bagpipes
  • 3:04 p.m. Program concludes. Beverages provided in reception area.
