LOCATION:1052
DESCRIPTION:New Exhibit at the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library\n“There we were wat
ching New York’s skyline diminish, and wondering if we’d be heroes or corps

e in the Great War through never-before-exhibited photographs, personal let

n into the man who would one day become one of the most respected president
s in our nation’s history, and this year only, visitors can view this fasci
nating story in depth at the Truman Library.\nUpon entry in the National Gu
ard, Truman was put in command of Battery D of the 129th Field Artillery, 3
5th Division, an unruly bunch that grew to respect him as he proved his lea
dership skills.\nThroughout their service together, Captain Truman managed
not to lose a single man, even though Battery D braved the largest action i
n American military history at that point — the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.\nC
ommemorate the centennial of America’s involvement and Truman’s service in
World War I, and view this story of leadership and triumph on display this
year only at the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum.\nThis exhibition is ma
de possible thanks to the generous support received from members and friend
s of the Truman Library Institute.\nThe Truman Library would also like to t
hank the family of Corporal Eugene Donnelly, Marny and John Sherman, for ge
nerously underwriting the preservation of Harry Truman’s WWI collection.\nT
he exhibition runs March 10 to December 31, 2018, and entry is included in
museum admission and free for Truman Library Institute members.\n
