SUMMARY:NOT ABOUT HEROES by Stephen MacDonald
LOCATION:1068
DESCRIPTION:Arís is a non-profit theatre company based in Atlanta, GA - presenting play
s from and about Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. We wanted to commemo
rate the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day to remember, lest we forget, th
e terrible cost of war. We also wish to honor the legacy of the poets who f
ound beauty and friendship in the midst of unspeakable ugliness and tragedy
, and whose work still inspires us today. This moving play by Stephen MacDo
nald is based on the real-life friendship between noted World War I poets S
iegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen. Against the backdrop of the horrors of t
rench warfare, these two men forge a powerful bond which not only impacts t
hem for the rest of their lives, but proves to be the catalyst for some of
the most beautiful, heart-wrenching poetry to come out of the Great War. In
addition to the play, we are presenting a staged reading of Somerset Maugh
am's comedy HOME AND BEAUTY on Tues Nov 6 and on Tues Nov 13, an evening of
WWI music and poetry at Manuel's Tavern 602 North Highland Avenue NE, Atla
nta, GA 30307. And on Sunday Nov 11 at 10:30am we will be participating in
a Remembrance Day Service at Emory University's Cannon Chapel, followed by
potluck luncheon before our matinee performance of NOT ABOUT HEROES at 7 St
ages Theatre. Tickets and information about all the events are at www.arist
 heatre.org
