PVT George G. Clarke, of Holyoke, was killed on the battlefield in France in the Chemin Des Dame Sector, on February 17, 1918. It was in the opening days of combat action for the un-tested Soldiers of the 26th "Yankee" Division, 104th Infantry Regiment of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF).
This February 16, 2018, 4pm at Holyoke City Hall, VFW Post 801, South Hadley VFW Post 3104, the VFW Department Of Massachusetts, VFW District 7, the Yankee Division Veterans Association's Holyoke Chapter and Military Order of the Purple Heart will hold a ceremony in honor of PVT George G. Clarke, Missing In Action. A Memorial Proclamation will be issued by Mayor Alex B. Morse.
