Commission Releases National Education Plan

Commissioner Libby O’Connell has released the Commission’s National Education Plan. The NEP sets as its target reaching 11.7 million students over the next four years. Teacher resources are available now.


Kansas Holds Initial Meeting
The initial meeting of the Kansas WW1 Centennial Commemoration Committee
was held recently with WW1 Centennial Commissioner Jim Whitfield in attendance. The Governor of Kansas passed Chairman Dalessandro's letter on to the Kansas Historical Society which, in turn, named Mary Madden, Director of the Kansas Museum of History, as the Committee's Chairman. It's mission is to "Raise Awareness of Kansas role and contributions in World War 1" and it is currentley working to develop a Kansas WW1 Logo. The Committee plans to reconvene in a few month's time.

Tennessee Announces Kick-Off Events

The Tennessee Great War Commission has announced plans for November events with a focus on Tennesseans who were involved in the war before the U.S. entry in 1917. The Tennessee site is up and running on WordWar1Centennial site. Take a look here.

Memorial Design Competition Moves to Finalist stage
The finalists for the National World War 1 Memorial Design competition were announced last week. You can see the finalists design concept submissions here.
