Camp Logan a Century Ago

Houston, TX - Congressman Ted Poe TX-2 tipped us off to the fact that World War One history often can be right under your feet! Thousands of Houstonians enjoy their Memorial Park everyday, but many do not realize that the park began as Camp Logan, a massive WWI training camp. Built in 1917, the camp was half the size of Manhattan and could house over 50,000 soldiers- by comparison, Houston only had a population of 100,000 at the time. Today, local archaeologists, historians, civic leaders, and citizens are working together to bring back the history of the camp, as well as its role in our national story, for future generations. Final Five Get Continued Scrutiny
Washington, DC - The Design Oversight Committee for the National World War I Memorial at Pershing Park held a mid course review this week. Two days of detailed focus on the design concepts will help to inform the final decision. Look for a final design concept after the first of the year. You can follow Memorial developments here.
