The WWI Centennial and Veterans Tribute Train event will be held May 19-20, 2017. Friday, May 19 will be an educational symposium on the impact and relevance of WWI to today's world and then Saturday we will have a full day of events anchored by the steam locomotive excursion from Mt. Pleasant to Cadillac, Michigan. The steam locomotive is the No. 1225, built in 1941 and used to transport soldiers and raw materials during WWII. It is also the sounds of, and inspiration for, the train in The Polar Express movie.
On May 20 in Cadillac, there will be a commemoration and festival in the town square once the train arrives. More details to follow but there is also a possibility of a concert and fireworks show at night since the town square is just steps from Lake Cadillac with an amphitheater on the lake's shore.

President notes U.S. WW1 legacy in NATO speech
On July 9 President Barack Obama referenced the upcoming centennial of the U.S. entry into World War 1 as he asserted "the unwavering commitment of the United States to the security and defense of Europe, to our transatlantic relationship, to our commitment to our common defense." Speaking at a press conference on the final day of the NATO Summit in Warsaw, Poland, the President said that, though NATO faces an unprecedented range of security, humanitarian and political challenges, the alliance always can count on the United States, as the nation's European allies have done since 1917.
