This monument consists of a rusticated granite slab that rises from a marble base. A large bronze plaque, mounted to the front of the slab, contains an honor roll of the Hawthorne residents who served in World War I. The plaque is crowned by a central spread-winged eagle whose talons are anchored in a US shield. In the background are sets of three angled, partially furled flags.
