Wednesday, July 13, 2016, 08:00am - 05:00pm

About The Event

The Volunteers: Americans Join World War I 1914-1919 is currently one of the central exhibits at the National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City MO.
Opening Tuesday, April 5The Volunteers: Americans Join World War I 1914-1919gives an in-depth look at American volunteer efforts prior to the United States’ official entry to World War I. Created in collaboration with AFS Intercultural Programs, the exhibition highlights the contribution of ambulance drivers and the critical role they played in several notable battles during the early stages of the war in the French theater. Other American volunteer endeavors coordinated by the YMCA, YWCA and other regional and national organizations are featured. Additionally, the contributions of Americans who fought under Allied flags through the French Foreign Legion are included, from their military training in Canada to fighting on the front lines in Europe. The exhibit runs until Oct. 2.

Also, every Saturday in June the Museum will be hosting a 'Hands-On History" lesson at 11am, where kids of all ages will get the chance to handle artifacts from the Great War while learning about the conflict in a family-friendly environment.
