    1st Division is founded

    Was made up of the 1st and 2nd Infantry Brigade ( 16th, 18th, 26th, 28th Infantry regiment); 1st, 2nd, 3rd, machine gun battalion; 1st artillery Brigade ( 5th, 6th, 7th Artillery regiment); 1st trench mortar battery; 1st engineer regiment.

    Started shipping out of Hoboken, NJ to France.

    First contingency has arrived in St. Nazaire France.

    2nd Inf Brig moves from Gondrecourt and begins the relief of 1st Inf Brig which returns to the Gondrecourt area.

    Div begins the relief of elements of 89th Div in the main line of resistance in the west part of the Lucey Sector.

    St-Mihiel operation

    Start of the St-Mihiel operation. Advances are made through the line.

    1st Division relieved.

    Fr 39th Div relieves the 1st Div.

    Relief of 35th Div.

    Div begins the relief of the 35th Div along a front.

    Div moves from vicinity of Nouart toward the Stonne-Beaumont road preparatory to relieve 80th Div.

    Reaches Sedan.

    Div reaches heights south and southwest of Sedan. Later in the day Div withdraws south of the line from La Besace to Autrecourt in compliance with orders of First Army. Thereafter the Div moves to Vaux-en-Dieulet area.
