Food Will Win The War - Home
Welcome to Food Will Win The War!
This section of the WW1 Centennial Commission website covers the role of food, agriculture, cooking, and food conservation in freeing up much-needed food supplies for first the Allies and later American troops during the First World War. Created by World War I food historian Sarah Wassberg, historians and history buffs across the country are welcome to contribute to this site.
To navigate, use the sidebar at left to find out more about why the United States needed to conserve wheat, how people canned their own food to free up commercially canned goods for transport overseas, and the creation of the United States Food Administration, headed by Herbert Hoover, plus much more.
